Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing souls and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
This verse turned out to be difficult for me today. I think the message for me is that God is actively involved in leading and guiding us. There is no rule book which lists every single right and wrong. God expects us to continue to be in relationship and conversation with Him, to help with difficult decisions, and to continue learning. The closer our relationship, the more accurate our discernment.
Holy Lord, I am thankful for your gift of the Holy Spirit, which continues to lead and guide me. Amen

Hebrews 4:12
The last sentence of verse 12 is very important. We need to remember that not just our actions as we try to live up to God’s instruction, but what is in our hearts and private thoughts as well. How often have we done some thing we know is putting his words into deeds, BUT we did it grudgingly, wishing we were somewhere else doing something more fun. We can’t hide these feelings from him and when we finally realize it, we feel the guilt and shame we talked about last week.
Prayer: Gracious God, Help me keep my eyes and heart on your word in all I do. Amen

Jesus indwells every page of the Scriptures we read and meditate on daily. As the writer of Hebrews observes, when read through the lens of faith, the Living Word penetrates our very soul, giving us the measure of discernment we need to keep moving in the right direction on the journey toward sanctification.
Prayer - Precious Jesus, let Your presence in Scripture, fill me with the proper sense of awe and wonder that having Your physical presence beside me would do. May Your word penetrate deeply into soul and spirit, joint and…

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
The word of God is living and active. Not some ancient text written on a page 2000 years ago that we’re trying to make apply to our lives today. The goal is to receive salvation, peace and joy, confidence of eternal life and forgiveness of sins. My discernment about this scripture is am I reading his word daily. Am I reading it, studying it, memorizing it, meditating on it. Letting it do living active, sharp, penetrating work insid…
