A Daily Devotion for Friday, June 6

Lamentations 3:22-23


Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,

for his compassions never fail.

They are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.


I will admit that verses like these are difficult for me, in the immediate context of war and destruction. To the writer, God has been compassionate and faithful. But as to those who perished, would they say the same? My hope is that they would- that they met God face to face in their last moments, were taken up in His arms, and guided to a better place, free of pain and worry. I have spent my adult life believing that God meets us at our deathbed- this is compassion and love and rescue, is it not?


Holy Lord, today I am reminded there is much more I do not know than that I do know. Help me to understand enough to draw me closer to you. I do think of your Word as a “lamp unto my feet”. Do not leave me in ignorance, God, when there is more I am to know. Amen

ETERNAL FAITHFULNESS

(Those in war torn countries)

Lamentations 3:22-23

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.


Trusting in God’s faithfulness day by day gives us the confidence in his promises for the future. I believe this scripture serves as a reminder that no matter how difficult life becomes, God’s love and mercy are constants we can depend on. As I think about this verse I found just as Jeremiah did on one of the most difficult points in his life that the consistent love of the Lord  never ceases and his tender compassions never failed. Lamentations 3:22-23

This is a verse the Transformers has tackled before, but it is a concept worth reminding ourselves of frequently. As long as we are on this earth, day will follow night. That applies to our struggles and difficulties every much as to the moon and sun. These struggles may be short or extend over years, but we are given a measure of God’s mercy every day we are alive to fight the good fight.
