Colossians 3:12-14
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
I am thinking this morning about politics. Nothing specific, just politics in general. I have been wondering more and more if acceptance might be just what is missing. We all learned at a young age that we can’t always have our own way. (‘Win some, lose some.’) Sometimes decisions are made for an entire group which are not particularly favorable for us (or me) as an individual. But if we learn acceptance, and know all is in God’s hands, we can move on. We can’t stop loving, or forgiving or being kind just because we did not get our own way. Acceptance is part of life, and when we can do it with grace and compassion, we are mirroring God’s love.
Lord God, help me to accept the things I cannot change. Help me to do this with grace and love for all of your people. Amen

Colossians 3:12-14 I like this translation’s use of the phrase “clothe yourselves.” We are to wear the fruit of the Spirit as we do the shirt on our backs. Karl Malden made ”Don’t leave home without it” an iconic phrase for American Express. I would not leave my house without clothes any more than I would drive blindfolded. Paul reminds me to be intentional about “putting on Christ” just as automatically as I put in my pants.
Prayer - Holy Spirit, clothe me in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience as I represent God’s love as a follower of Jesus. Give me a willingness to forgive as I have been forgiven as tangible evidence of my professed belief. Amen

This verse tells me to put conflict on a back burner and attempt to live my live with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Sometimes this is difficult to do but with Jesus’ help I should be able to deal with everyone in love, forgiveness and grace, just as we have been forgiven.

Colossians 3:12-14
Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
Paul is sending out instructions for us to let Christ rule our hearts and actions, our motives and behaviors, and to put our new lives into action. Because we do not want to waste what God has done in/for us or how He wants us to be toward others. This is not a behavior we are bein…
