A Daily Devotion for Friday, February 18

Luke 6: 36-37

Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

We are probably in agreement, mercy reflects/shows love. These verses remind me of the verse containing the “golden rule.” But in this case, we are reminded to treat others as God treats us.

Heavenly Father, I am sorry that I am distracted today, but I am with my friends, away from the stress and worldly concerns of my work. Lord, help me to shine with your love, and be merciful and kind. May I be an example to all I meet, of your love and mercy for me. Amen

Luke 6:36–37 These verses explain to us how to show mercy to others. Show compassion, do not judge, and forgive. These are the gifts we’ve been given. As children of God, we are called to follow his example of mercy. Sometimes we find this a challenge. It is at the these times we need to reread this verse. We cannot accept mercy and not be willing to offer it to others. Prayer: gracious God, May I always allow your mercy to flow freely from me to others. Amen

Luke 6:36-37 At the risk of repeating what others have said this morning, my treating people the way that I would like to be treated is definitely the “golden rule” to living an honest and joyful life. People will give me what I give to them, so I should not expect anything different. So if I am a person that does not like the way that I have been treated lately, step back and rethink the way I am treating others. There may be a connection between the two. The other example of this golden rule would be to treat others the way they themself wish to be treated. This scripture simply put and simple to understand describes what it mean…

Luke 6: 36-37

We walked through a series of readings on sanctification and there was a consensus that it was a process in which we were becoming more like Jesus. The consistent default to mercy is part of that process. Jesus makes clear the reason we show mercy and forgiveness and avoid condemnation and judgement is because the same was done for us by the Father. When I forget this and lapse into judgmental thinking, it grieves the Holy Spirit. This is the time for remembering this verse and repentance.

Prayer - Jesus, Teacher and Guide, I often fail to apply your teaching to life’s times of conflict. I ask forgiveness and strive to show mercy to others in return…

How may times I have to step back and remember to be merciful unto others. I remember learning the Golden Rule in Sunday school as well as at home. It is not all about us. It is about our family, friends, neighbors and beyond.

Dear God, Slow me down and remind me often to be generous, kind and merciful. Amen.

Luke 6: 36-37 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Do not judge and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

Mercy is something we should always show to others. We need the help of the Holy Spirit to be able to show mercy as God shows mercy. It is through God’s mercy that we are able to imitate Jesus as we walk though this life. We are not perfect, but with God’s help we can attempt to be Christ like.

Dearest Lord, thank you for the mercy and grace you have given to me in order for me to follow in Jesus’ footsteps. I a…
