John 15:15
I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
"What a friend we have in Jesus..." Jesus as my friend is such a comforting thought. I know I don't always think of Jesus as my friend, though. I am too intimidated by Jesus to imagine spending friendship-type time with him. I only know and understand a tiny fraction of what and who Jesus is. But he shared so much with his disciples, they must have truly felt like friends. Today I look forward to others' perspectives on this verse.
Holy Lord, help me to be closer. Draw me closer to you, I pray. Amen

My professional mentor was an unintentionally intimidating figure. He was always quite formal and business-like, but patient and gentle in his teaching style. As I spent more time with him and we got to know each other our relationship evolved to something more akin to friendship. When the disciples heard Jesus’ words they were surely humbled. To have this great teacher, the Son of the living God, call them friends must have struck them as fantasy. Yet there they were. We too can be considered friends as…
