Daily Prayer

September 18, 2021

A daily prayer from the New England Conference

The clergy and laity of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer

Gracious and loving God, thank You for the gift of prayer and for all the ways that I can have holy conversation with You. Help me to open my heart and ears to Your Word, to Your nudging, and to Your guidance in finding new ways to serve others wherever You lead me. Fill my whole being with strength so that I may extend a helping hand to those who are hurting and lonely. For those who continue to feel isolated, I ask that You equip me with the gifts of hospitality, compassion, and friendship. Forgive me, Lord, for not always seeing the goodness in others. Help me to live as a faithful and humble servant, seeking to listen to the stories of others just as You listen to mine. God of eternal faithfulness, You remind me of Your enduring love for all in the perpetual rising and the setting of the sun. Without the sun, I would not be able to survive on this Earth. Show me, too, Lord, that I also need Your son, Jesus Christ, in all aspects of my life. Continue to teach me how to honor You by loving and serving those who are often overlooked, misunderstood, and marginalized. Grant me the keen desire to draw closer to You. Help me to have the courage to awaken to greater humility and steadfastness in seeking peace for the world. Fill me with the desire to care for others, even to wash their feet as You washed each disciple’s feet. Each is more precious than rubies and are deserving of my love and respect. Open my eyes to new possibilities and opportunities where I can be the hands, feet, and heart of Jesus, seeking a world where our diversity is celebrated. May every community become a beacon of hope and grace to the weary and thirsty traveler on their journey through the power of the Holy Spirit. May all I that I do flow from my deep connection with You and all peoples. Instill in me the same eagerness that a child has in wanting to learn more about Your creation. I put my trust in You. Lord, in Your mercy, hear my prayer this day, and draw me ever closer to You, my Rock and my Redeemer. Amen. By Janice Urquhart Lay Leader-Northside UMC, Brewster, MA, Seacoast District
