Daily Prayer

July 1, 2022

A daily prayer from the New England Conference

Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.

You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer

Loving God, I do my best to be your emissary in this divided and divisive world, this black/white, right/wrong, red/blue, us/them world, where opinions are facts and debate partners are enemies. I do my best to proclaim your kindom in word and deed, pointing to another way – to Jesus’ Way of love and compassion and recognizing the sacred worth of the “other." I do my best, but sometimes I feel like a lamb among wolves. How many times have I tried to share a word of peace, to demonstrate a glimpse of your grace, to reflect the light of your love, only to be confronted by anger or disdain, my good intentions crumpled in a heap on the ground? Remind me that I am not responsible for changing anyone. (It is enough to try to change myself!) Remind me that others’ hearts are transformed by your Holy Spirit, not by my sincerity or persuasiveness. And remind me that, maybe – just maybe, I am the one who is wrong in a given situation. Holy One, continue calling me to be a truth teller, a peacemaker, a justice seeker, but also grant me the resilience not to be discouraged by failure. Help me to shake the dust from my feet, to accept that I have done all I can do, and to trust that you may yet work a miracle of transformation and reconciliation – just not through me. Amen. By Rev. Arlene Tully, Many Waters District Superintendent
