A daily prayer from the New England Conference

Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.

You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer

“I tell you, if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

Luke 19.40

Cornerstone, Capstone, Tested Stone, Living Stone Messiah, When we are silenced by weariness and shadow, the stones that were once pillows cry out. When we are silenced by thirst and fear, the stones that were once split by water cry out. When we are silenced by loneliness and doubt, the stones that were once hiding places cry out. When we are silenced by rules and expectations, the stones that were once tablets cry out. When we are silenced by despair and uncertainty, the stones that were once altars cry out. When we are silenced by violence and war, the stones that were once gathered by a young shepherd cry out. When we are silenced by borders and inequalities, the stones that were once walls cry out. When we are silenced by too much or not enough time, the stones that were once scattered and gathered cry out. When we are silenced by prejudice and exclusion, the stones that were once raised up as children cry out. When we are silenced by rejection and shame, the stones that were once living cry out. When we are silenced by loss and grief, the stone that was once rolled away cries out. We are listening. Let it be so.
