A daily prayer from the New England Conference

Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.

You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer

Scriptural Passage Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32

O God, we are astounded by your compassion. You see us while we are still far off, you come running toward us with outstretched arms, you wrap them around us, and kiss us, for the joy in you at our homecoming.

Oh that we might receive your embrace so completely that we in turn would run to embrace you — in the hurting, the wounded, the marginalized, for our joy of welcoming you, in them.

Rejoicing in our return from the places where we have been lost, you celebrate our homecoming with a grand feast, and and invite us to a banquet we could never have imagined.

Overwhelmed by your love and generosity, nourished by the food you give us, blessed by your redeeming grace, and engulfed with joy by of your welcome, we come profoundly grateful for your love.

And with glad and generous hearts we offer a measure of what you have given us. We with these gifs we bring our prayers and support for the ministry of UMCOR that stretches our arms to places we cannot be, and where you work through our offerings, and our embrace through the labor of others.

And so we pray that you would accept our gifts of gratitude and our prayers as signs of our love for you and of our desire to live and work with you in the world, through Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen
