A daily prayer from the New England Conference

Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.

You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer

“A Prayer for the Eyes of Faith”

Jesus, today we are as if being stuck in the valley. We are often distressed at the evil and injustice we see all around us. Instead of coming closer to the kingdom of God, we seem to be slipping even further into the kingdom of darkness.

While we are in the valley, help us learn by paradox that the way down is the way up, that the contrite spirit is the blessed spirit, that the valley of despair is the place of vision.

While we are in the valley, give us the eyes of faith that we may see that all things, good and bad, are under your control. that you can use even evil human deeds to advance your kingdom. that you will make it right in your time. Lord Jesus, we give thanks to you for those who have gone through valley before us. With Isaiah, we choose to say, “But because you show me vision, I’ll go.” With Peter, we choose to say, “But because you say so, I’ll try one more time.” With Paul, we choose to say, “But because you are risen, I too will live a resurrection life here and now.” Let us keep praying with the eyes of faith as you taught us to do: Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.
