Hebrews 12:2b
For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Jesus was positive he was doing the right thing, the only thing, that he needed to do. He was positive enough that he could endure something we are uncomfortable even imagining. He knew he would be with the Father and that in the end, there would be eternal forgiveness for each and every one of us. We did not do a single thing to deserve this sacrifice- it was and is what God wants for us.
Holy Father, this plan is so hard to understand- why things needed to play out the way that they did- we have trouble knowing why it needed to happen this way. Help me to accept your blessings and your forgiveness and the sacrifice of your Son without needing the “why” written in plain ink. Help me to accept ”love” as the answer to most of these questions. Amen

Hebrews 12:2.
The author of Hebrews wants us to focus on our faith in Jesus because of all he suffered for us. If you go back one chapter to 11 we are reminded of all the people of the Old Testament who by faith in God persevered. Jesus life and death were for us. Lessons on how to live and a death that sets us free from sin if we ask.
Prayer: Gracious God, may I remember all who came before me and lived by faith. AMEN
Hebrews 12:2b
Joy? Yes, I suppose the joy we all seek, to sit with our Father. It is hard to believe that Jesus was able to go through the suffering, torture and humiliation and still stay focused on what was at the end of this journey. What makes it even harder believe is that he did this for me and for you, undeserving sinners that we are.
Heavenly Father, thank you for our Jesus. Thank you for the gift of salvation and Grace that Jesus gave us through his suffering. Please help me to always seek you and keep you at the center of my life right where you belong. Amen .
Hebrews 12:2
The phrase that gets my attention in this verse is not specifically addressed by Lucado. The phrase is “For the joy set before Him . . .” Joy? Really? This could only (in my mind) be referring to Jesus’s return to the Father. We all have felt how good it is a to come back home after a long time away. The Apostle’s Creed says after His death Jesus ascended to heaven where He sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty from where He shall judge the living and the dead. This ultimate destination, it seems to me, was part of what gave Jesus the strength and resolve to choose the nails.

Hebrews 12:2
Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
In today’s world we need to look away from everything that will distract us from focusing on Jesus. Growing into the kind of person God intends me to be will take time. Jesus knew the pain and anguish that was in front of him as he endured the cross. He even asked God, Father, please take this from me, but if it is your will, I’ll do it. In the end, he followe…
