John 14:25-27
“All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
We have talked about being mindful of the Holy Spirit, of recognizing and responding to the communication we have been promised. When I read these five sentences, I am reminded, by Jesus, that I have everything I need. Today I will live in that peace, will listen for the Holy Spirit, and will not be afraid.
Holy Lord, thank you for all of your blessings, which are not deserved by me. I am sorry for my sins, for the times I have fallen short of being what you created me to be. Thank you for your gift of the Holy Spirit. Grant me wisdom and discernment, that I may see and follow the correct path to you. Amen

John 14:24-27 Listening Deliberately
There was a time when I was so eager to share what I knew, I often interrupted people. I thought I knew what someone was saying so I would interrupt to share my opinion. Enough times of being wrong taught me to just listen. I'm glad I've been successful because I have learned so much from others. I also know that quiet time is a good thing. How else will I hear or feel the nudge of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Gracious God, I have learned much over my life, but one of the most important is to listen for you. AMEN

Listening deliberately
( focus those with hearing loss
Today’s Reading. John 14: 25-27
John 14:26
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
Like the author of the upper room this morning, many times I am not focused on listening to other people, too many distractions not really concerned with what they were saying. If I can ignore the people in my life, how do I expect to hear the Holy Spirit.
The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit is God. Being a follower of Jesus, these verses prompt me…
John 14:25-27
This passage and the reflection in the Upper Room were perfect reminders for me while at Scout camp. As I engage with campers, leaders and staff, I must remain a quiet and careful listener, and when I do speak, my words should be those brought to me by the Holy Spirit. I know every conversation I have is not of an overtly spiritual nature, but when people know they are speaking with the camp chaplain, there is always a little element of that in the background. I must stand out of the way for the Holy Spirit to make me a worthy ambassador for the Kingdom of God.
