A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, May 28

1 Peter 5:6-7

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

The reading and the devotion in the Upper Room today tugged at my mind and heart from several different directions. Also, we had such a great conversation last night during the Transformers meeting about giving God our worries, and how difficult yet life-changing that can be. God created us just (perfectly) the way he wanted us. He cares for us. He wants us to be the best we can be. He hears our prayers and answers them according to his perfect will. Life will not always be comfortable or how we would like it to be, but we are never alone, and never “unheard.”

Holy Lord, you bless me day after day by hearing my call to you. I know you are here, with me, ready to comfort and calm me. I am so grateful. Amen

2 Corinthians 516-21. 1 Pete 5:6-7

As we age, we often come to the realization that so much of what we deemed important, especially "things" simply are not important anymore. We are looking for the simpler things--family, love, and faith. We stop acquiring "things" and give away or "downsize" things. While I feel this way, following through is not easy.

Prayer: Gracious God, help me cling to the important things in life, people not possessions. AMEN

1Peter 5:6-7

After reading the Corinthians passage, what came to mind was how challenged we are with the behavior of some people in our society. This has come up several times for me in our group readings, and I don’t know why I’m so hung up on it. Am I really the one to judge? God sees in me what I do not see in myself and accepts me just the way I am, sins and all. Christ sets an example of unconditional love for us. I must do more to emulate that trait. Sometimes I just need to set my perceptions and views aside and extend the hand of friendship and love more often.

Heavenly Father, help me to…

1 Peter 5:6-7

Humility and patience in one verse? This is an example of God speaking directly to me in my morning’s quiet time. In the last 24 hours I have developed a viral illness that is forcing me to slow down, attacking me in the realms of humility and patience mentioned in this morning’s Upper Room verse. Would I like to just “power through it?” Perhaps in the past, but not anymore. I think I will heal faster if I heed the call to rest, put this in God’s hands and recover. The unacceptable alternative is to attend my scheduled meetings, run my appointed errands, selfishly exposing others to this and prolonging recovery time. I’ve been slowed down for…
