James 4:13-15
Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
These verses are another reminder that we are not the masters of our own universes. We do not know what God has planned for us. “God willing” may seem a bit old-fashioned to us because it is not said so often anymore. But it still holds the Truth. All of our time, our plans, our futures are in God’s hands.
Holy Lord, help me to remember that you are in control. I pray that my hopes and my plans fall in line with your perfect will. Help me to see that I am not in control over much of what I worry about. Amen

James 4:13-15
God has a plan for us, sometimes simple, sometimes complex. Our constant planning is insignificant in the big picture. I am a serial worrier, regretfully, for whatever reason I can’t seem to help myself, but God‘s plan is God‘s plan and it may not include tomorrow on this earth. So, I hope whatever time I have, I make a difference and the mist that I leave is one full of God‘s love.
Dear God, please help me lay my worries at your feet. I pray that the plans I feebly make are in line with your plans. Amen.
James 4:13-15
Most of us like to plan ahead, especially about important things. It helps us feel organized and secure. No, we don't know the future, but we still plan. What is the saying?--Man plans--God laughs! I think what James is trying to tell us is that we are all just tiny pieces in this world and our lives are short compared to the earth we inhabit. I believe it is OK to plan, but have a plan B or maybe even C.
Prayer: Gracious God, i realize my plans should always start with you. AMEM

James 4:13-15
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.
James is telling us we are but a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. (In this vast world we live in we have also been known as just a speck). He is telling us to accept our
James 4:13-15
“You are a mist that appears for a while and then vanishes.” These stark words certainly put our lives into perspective. The Thornton Wilder play, Our Town, is an extended reflection on the thought expressed in today’s passage. In our day-to-day existence we often do not realize until we have lost someone how they have enriched our lives. My dad was taken when he was but 56. Earlier this week we lost Gloria Symonds. 92 may not seem like a mist at first glance, but I wasn’t fully prepared to hear my own mother had passed at that same age back in 2020. Yesterday I received word of the death of one of my mentors and personal heroes.…
