A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, Feb. 25

1Corinthians 12:12-14, 26-27

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free —and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

All of God’s creation really, can be thought of in this same way. Each tiny plant has many parts, each part with its own function. Likewise every animal, and every part of nature. Even the things in nature which are not themselves alive— all are made up of different types of matter, down to protons and neutrons, electrons and even smaller, quarks. (Yes, I did need to look that up 😁) So, this method of each part having a role to play is clearly God’s plan, and one we should all embrace. Some of us will have a quieter, supportive role. Some will have a larger, more obvious role. But we all have a role. When that role is no longer filled, things do not function quite as smoothly. We can all probably think of examples of this happening in our own church. Our individual roles are important.

Holy Lord, help me to see my role in the family of God. May I be cognizant of what my role includes and fill that need for your church. Amen

Becky, transforming

(Remembering Carolyn Wade communion ,acknowing, her need )

Today’s Reading

1 Corinthians 12:12-14/26-27

1 Corinthians 12:26-27

If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.

Paul compares the church to a human body—one body composed of many different parts necessary to function.  Just as a foot or ear is no less part of the body for being different. No part is insignificant. That we are doubly blessed involves both physical (health) and spiritual happenings (peace and joy) we realize that we are not just receiving…

1 Corinthians 12:12-14 & 26-27. Doubly Blessed

Being part of a small church is such a gift. We are a family. We know each other pretty well. Because we can all take communion at the same time, our Pastor can look us in the eye and say the words of communion directly to us and call us by name. Today's writer felt this when communion was delivered to her persoally because she could not be part of the larger group. At Hillside, it is always a personal delivery.

Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for the gift of a small church that I can be a part of. AMEM

1Corinthians 12:12-14, 26-27

Each of us has been called to play a specific role in God’s plan. At times that role comes very naturally to us and we do it without much thought. Then the Holy Spirit reminds us of the importance of our part. We are effusively thanked for something we thought was just routine. We are told how much we were missed when such and such took place and we were not able to be there. No role is too small. Just try leaving that teaspoon of baking powder or half teaspoon of soda out of the recipe and learn this timeless lesson.

Prayer - Sovereign God, please help all believers remember and take seriously the role we…
