Matthew 22:23-33
That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. “Teacher,” they said, “Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him. Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. Finally, the woman died. Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?”
Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”
When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.
So, if I am reading this correctly, Jesus is reminding us that although things will be very different for us in heaven, in eternity with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, what will be the same is our God. He is the same God yesterday, today and tomorrow. This is important for me to remember today, in this earthly life. Although my situation may change dramatically, God will not change at all. I can go to him with the same hope and trust, no matter when or why. This is tremendously reassuring to me.
Holy Lord, thank- you for reminding me again of your steadfast, unchanging presence. Amen

Matthew 22:31-32
And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God: ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.”
I AM is forever. Death cannot compete with this. That’s why God said I AM he did not say, I Was the God of Abraham. Then I was Isaac’s God. And after him I was Jacob’s God.” I was means something from the past. The word difference is …
Matthew 22:23-33
The Upper Room contributor offers an interesting take on this passage from Matthew. The fact that God loved me as much before I realized I was not master of the universe as I have been loved since surrendering to God’s lordship is humbling. Loving the unlovable is a mark of grace and a goal all believers strive for in our journey toward sanctification. I remain a better recipient than donor of this grace, but the journey goes on.
Prayer - Everlasting and eternal God, thank You for the gift of this new day and the opportunity to share Your love with others. Some may welcome it, others may resist, but Your love remains steadfast through all ages and through…
