A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, August 5

Ecclesiastes 3: 1-11

Verse 11: He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

The passage for today is one of my favorites. I used to dismiss the verses as overused lyrics to a song, because that was the way I listened to them. But they are so profoundly comforting and encouraging. Everything we experience in this life has its place in God’s creation- no matter how painful. I believe everything will eventually lead to beauty, even if to our eyes it is ugly and painful. “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” To help us find this beauty, and to be patient, “He has set eternity in the hearts of men.” The verses remind us to trust in God, and to be patient.

Father God, you have made all things beautiful. Thank you for creating me with the desire to understand and seek you. Help me to see the beauty in every season. Amen
