Psalm 16:11
You make known to me the path of life;
You will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
True joy will be ours when we are in God’s presence. God guides my path here on earth, and there are many pleasures here in life. But I feel like this verse is telling me the joy of being with God will be a new kind of happiness.
Father God, I will walk with you and follow as closely as I can manage. Help me to see when I am off. I look forward to the joy of eternity in your presence. I am sorry for the times I have sinned and disappointed you. Amen

Psalm 16:11
You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
It helped to read the prior verse (10) in order to understand verse 11 better. David knew that God would not leave him in the grave. David is thanking the Lord for showing him the way of life that leads to heaven. It is a place of fullness and joy far beyond any place on earth. Even when I allow my imagination to run wild on the joys of Heaven, my mind is incapable of conceiving what it will be like. Only in Heaven will we know exac…
What is happiness? I have never been one to be laughing and smiling all the time, but I feel I have been happy most of my life. I equate happiness with contentment and satisfaction with life. Belief in God leads to these feelings for me. I certainly need to devote more time to following the word, but that is what being a work in progress is like.
Dear Lord, Thank you for my life. I need your help to concentrate more on your word and example. Amen.
Psalm 16:11 David did not lead a perfect, blemished life, yet he always returned to God who he knew would put him back on the right path. More than that, however, David knew that, upon death, he would see his Lord and be with him forever. What joy and happiness this brought him. It should do the same for us. This verse is our reminder that there is joy and happiness beyond our time on this Earth. Prayer: gracious God, this verse is reassurance for our future that we sometimes fear. Amen
Psalm 16:11 You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
David was gifted with the knowledge that Christ would come. As a Christian, I know that Jesus has and is with me always. This life offers much happiness, but also pain. I was not promised that life would be easy. I am promised eternal life with hard work and joy in doing it. This is the promise that gives me happiness as I navigate through life on earth.
Dearest Lord, thank you for all the blessings that you have given to me. You have given me everything I need in this life to…
Psalm 16:11
The psalmist reveals the difference between temporal happiness and eternal happiness. Temporal happiness is not inherently bad, but it is fleeting and dependent on our immediate circumstances. Eternal happiness represents that bright hope for tomorrow we have as we walk the path of sanctification with God. It is that hope we referred to last evening when we talked about freedom from the fear of death. Eternal happiness does not depend the least on our immediate circumstances and upholds us through the trials of life.
Prayer - God of hope, Source of our eternal happiness, I give thanks for Your provision for our lives, both temporal and eternal. In this life, help me to turn away from the sin…
