Proverbs 17:22
A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
This verse reminds me of “Fake it ‘til you make it.” I wonder if modern day therapists know they are nearly quoting scripture! :o) If we allow ourselves to sit still in our anger or sadness or fear, we become less and less able to move. Becoming physically and mentally active and productive truly can be healing. Calling to God for help in doing so is transformative. I need to remember this verse when I am feeling tired and sorry for myself.
Lord God, help me to see when I have become inactivated by my negative feelings. Help me to reach for you, and to find positive and productive thought and activities. You are the source of all of my joy. Amen

Proverbs 17:22
While Katie is the optimist sibling, I represent the pessimist end of the spectrum. The thing I must guard against is allowing this to crush my spirit. As much as I would like to be a perpetually cheerful fellow, at this age, I find the prospect unlikely. All that in mind, this wisdom of this proverb is valid and worth striving for.
Prayer - Merciful God, grant me a heart of gratitude that leads to a cheerful outlook and countenance as I tackle the circumstances of life. Amen

Proverbs 17:22
Just like having a cheerful personality is good for our own health. being around those people is so good for those of us who tend to be quieter and more serious. I know I have a friend who is so open and upbeat, I find myself being the same way when I am with her. She is medicine for my personality. And, yes we all also know someone who is the exact opposite. They live in and with past disappointments and they exude doom and gloom. Unfortunately, we tend to avoid someone like that. Not good for them, and a poor decision for us as we will not be there to offer any help.
Prayer: Gracious God, Hel…
Proverbs 17:22
The “power of positive thinking”, indeed positive thinking is powerful! So much research shows that a positive outlook has an effect on our mental and physical health. Our overall well-being is tied to positive thinking. We should fend off forces (and people, for that matter) that attempt to steal our joy. We should strive to maintain a positive outlook and when we feel that nasty ol’ negative outlook creeping in, our first stop should be to turn to God with prayer to restore our joy.
Heavenly Father, thank you for all the joy in my life. Please help me to stay focused on that joy and shut out the negative. Thank you for Your Grace, the greatest joy…

Proverbs 17:22
A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Laughter is like taking necessary medicine. Every day we need to do this. . Find something that makes us laugh. See the humor in life. Put on a smile. The opposite of a cheerful heart is a crushed spirit that dries up the bones. Our hearts cannot rejoice in the Lord, when it has become so cynical that it cannot find joy in the simple things. I pray I will never possess such a heart. A cheerful heart does not pretend that all is well, may not always wear a smile , but can also grieve at the…
