Proverbs 22:29

Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.

Becoming good at what we do and working hard at it; I believe this is God's wish for us. It is never time wasted. What goes unstated here is that we are always serving God, in all that we do. It is never just work for work's sake, or practice for no reason- it is doing the best we can with God's gifts to us.

Holy Lord, may I remember these words when I am "wasting time". You did not put me here to waste time, but to make the most of it. Thank you for your many gifts. Amen

Proverbs 22:29

I have tried to make sense of this verse by reading several other translations. They all speak to me in a different way. So I will just write what’s in my heart. I like to think of myself as a “Jack/Jill of all things but a master of none.” My husband, Jerry is the same way. He can do almost anything and fix most things. I can’t follow a pattern without making mistakes so I just use the simple knit/garter stitch. To m…

Proverbs 22:29

Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.

It is a treat to see a true craftsman at his craft. Skilled workers are definitely needed in these days of technological advances. In whatever skill God has called us to do, we need to do it to the best of our ability, to the glory of God (1 Cor 10:31). Learn to love your work and skills because it brings glory to God who uses it for his purposes. “I just” sew because I love doing it and I want to continue this talent while remaining humble. Others say “I just” becau…

Proverbs 22:29 I take this verse in the same spirit as Colossians 3:23. Our very best work is done for the King of kings and not for those officials of low rank, men. Our fellow humans may well benefit from or admire our skills, but at their core these skills are a gift from God and their fruit is an offering of thanksgiving.

Prayer - God of excellence, help me resist the temptation to approach the work in front of me with an attitude of being just good enough to get it done. May I always bear in mind it is You who are glorified by excellent work above and beyond expectations. What benefits others is a vehicle to honor You.…
