A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, May 7

Psalm 42:1-2

As the deer pants for streams of water,

so my soul pants for you, my God.

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.

When can I go and meet with God?

Here we have scripture which was no doubt very familiar to Jesus. Water is essential to our very existence, and this has been known to man since his creation. We have always sought God, and Jesus tells us again and again, that without Him, we will surely die. With Him, we will live forever. God is as essential to our eternal existence as water is to our earthly one.

Holy Lord, may I always seek you, and thirst for you. Help me to turn away from other things which might seem right in the moment, but are not your will for me. Amen

Psalm 42:1-2

So often I find sections of the psalms to be such beautiful poetry. This is one of the most beautiful and heart felt.

“As the deer longs for streams of water,

So I long for you, O God.

I thirst for God, the living God.

When can I go and stand before him?”

I feel the Psalmists longing for the love and peace he knows only God can give him. I love the phrase, “I thirst for God.” So many thirst for God but don’t know where to look. We, ourselves, are often searching, but I know we understand where the answers are.

Prayer: Gracious God, May I look for others that thirst and be of help knowin…

Psalm 42:1-2

As a deer pants for streams of water so my soul pants for you O God. my . My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

A deer will seek water after being chased or hunted by predators. In the heat of the day, the watering hole is a haven for many  different types of animals seeking the same relief in the water. The deer will pant or cry for the water, knowing his survival depends on it. David was feeling lonely and  depressed with an intense thirst for God. he longs to be close to the Lord. David  begins and ends with hope and…

Psalm 42:1-2

The Psalmist asks, “Where can I go and meet with God?” We can find our living water in many places. My time with Kenny and Nora the last two days, more than I anticipated due to fortunate circumstances, was a source for me. When we encounter even little sips, the water can be eagerly taken up with thanksgiving. It’s power will uphold us until we need to be refreshed at which time God will again provide.

Prayer - Thank You, Lord for Your living water that refreshes, renews and restores. May I ever be able to find places to go and meet with You. Amen
