John 15:13
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
It seems that Jesus is preparing his disciples for his death. He is letting them know that his death will represent his love for them. When I read this, I immediately think about dying for a friend. How would that scenario ever come about? Could I do that? This automatically brings in the element of “degree” of love. Do we love that friend enough to die for them? Somehow, I feel Jesus would not want us to consider, “how much do I love them?” Jesus talks about loving our neighbor as we love ourselves. So, we should be willing to die for others, because we love all of God’s creation. This is a tall order, when looked at in this way.
Holy Lord, help me to love others unconditionally, selflessly and generously. Help me to be willing to sacrifice for others. May I consider all who I meet to be friends, or at the very least, neighbors whom I love. Amen

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
Hopefully, we’re never placed in a position that requires us to sacrifice our physical life for another person. However, we can practice self-sacrificial love for others daily. Jesus provided the ultimate example of practicing this level of love. Following His perfect example, we can lovingly sacrifice our time, energy, wants and desires for others. Jesus said there was no greater love than to “lay down one’s life for his friends.” how can I apply His words in my live. I want to give all the love I can, and then try to give just a little more.
