A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, June 7

1 Corinthians 12:26

If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

This passage is part of Paul’s description of the church as one body with different but important parts that need to work together. I find thinking about the church as a family just as meaningful. It is too easy to dismiss the struggles and pain of others when they are far away or unknown to us personally. Sometimes the Spirit leads us to “discover” someone in need or hurting. We must listen, and follow the Spirit, because it has identified one of God’s creation who is in need.

Holy One, you speak to me through your Spirit, and I am so thankful. Help me to provide a measure of comfort where you lead me. Amen

Paul tells me that all things matter. Others may be more intelligent, more gifted in many ways, but we are all the same in God’s eyes. I should rejoice when I see the great qualities in others, because God gave us all what we need to succeed.

Dearest Lord, thank you for the wonderful gifts of love, faith and joy you have given to me. I hope I honor you every day by using these gifts to show others your love. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

1 Corinthians 12:26 Interconnectedness is a true and reliable mark of familial relationship. We have all been in the position of hurting for a family member in their pain or difficulty or being happy for them in their joys and success. Paul’s body analogy captures this perfectly and it is the blessed congregation that can claim this as their standard.

Prayer - Unifying God, bring Your divine love to Your family, especially in this season of suspicion and disharmony. Give each of us the eyes to see, ears to hear and heart to feel the needs of our family in Christ, and thus display the unity that Paul described for the world to see. They will know we are Christians by…

1 Corinthians 12:26

If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.

No matter what part of the world we come from we are all the same as human beings. We all seek happiness and try to avoid suffering. We have the same basic needs and concerns. All of us want freedom and the right to decide our own life style as individuals. I think this is just human nature.

At the same time, the problems we face today — violent conflicts, destruction of our world, poverty, hunger, and so on —are mainly caused by humans. This can be corrected, but only through human concern , understanding and the development…
