A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, June 22

2 Peter 3:3-9

verses 8-9: But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

I am glad time moves differently with God than it does with us. Selfishly, I would like as much time here on earth as possible. I know it will be difficult for me to say goodbye to this life I know, and scary to pass to an eternity I have never seen. But God has big plans, bigger than anything I could ever understand. I have to have faith. I must believe God has an eternal plan for me, and for all of us. Maybe I will be here on earth when Jesus comes again. Maybe not. God will hold me, wherever I am.

Holy Father, I trust you to keep your promises. Wherever I am, I am with you. Amen

2 Peter 3:3-9 8. But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and thousand years are like a day. We live in a society that has become a “I want it now” culture. I know I have often been like that. But when speaking with others about God, we need to remember this verse. God‘s timing is not the same as ours. God will do what needs to be done when he is ready, not necessarily when we want it done. This is a hard concept when we are in a difficult situation. It is hard to step back and let God be in control. Prayer: gracious God yes, this vers…

2 Peter 3: 3-9 We cannot expect our human understanding of time to be the same timing of God. A thousand years are like one day to him, He is not slow in keeping His promise. God is the one who made the schedule: He cannot be late. Instead, God keeps every promise at the perfect time for His glory and for the good of those He loves. The delay in Christ's return is because of God's patience, and not his lateness. In His love and patience, God is willing to give more time for more people to come to repentance. This is God's plan to allow more people opportunity to place their trust in Christ in order to…

God is so patient with me. He will not intervene when I use my free will to do wrong. He waits patiently until I realize my mistakes and repent. God wants me to succeed. He watches as I misstep and is happy when I find the way back to him. What a wonderful God. His love is so great and his patience knows no bounds. I am so grateful that he understands me and forgives me when I stray.

Dearest Lord, you are patient and…

2 Peter 3:3-4a - “First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts and saying, ‘Where is the promise of his coming?’”

The “last days” is a concept that is difficult for we of finite, temporally oriented minds. Our God works in the eternal now, thus time as we understand it has little meaning. One result of this difference is our puzzlement over some of the things that God does in what we understand as real time. “Scoffers“ today, just as in the time of Peter ridicule our trust in God, but believers stand firm on God’s promises which, as was preached Sunday, are for our ultimate happiness…
