Psalm 32:2
Blessed is the one
whose sin the LORD does not count against them
and in whose spirit is no deceit.
We know that God forgives our sins. But not acknowledging our sins, or failing to ask God to forgive us, is wrong. How can we learn from our mistakes if we don’t take the time to go back and look at them? At the very least we must acknowledge that we sinned, and try to do better. The writer of today’s devotion is a musician, and talks about playing an instrument without making mistakes. I know from experience that if I don’t go back and look at what is wrong with what I am playing on the piano, I will continue to stumble or play the wrong notes in the same place, each time I play that piece. I don’t really think of mistakes at the piano as sins (that would really be burdensome for God 😊), but no matter the sin, I need to admit that I was wrong, and ask God to forgive me, whenever I am able. Ignoring sin does not lead to growth.
Holy Lord, you are (all the time) good to me, and I need to admit when I know I have sinned. Forgive me Lord, for the times I forget, or am not paying attention. Amen

Psalm 32:2 Failing to confess my sin to God reveals a spirit of deceit and the guilt remains. Confession is a kind of cleansing. Shame many linger, usually for legitimate reasons, but God removes the guilt. Divine pardon occurs with every heartfelt confession of sin. This does not absolve me of trying to right the wrong my sin is responsible for. This effort can at least partially assuage the shame that comes with knowing my sin has caused harm. There may an unsalvageable rift caused by my sin in human terms, but confession to God and God’s pardon is an undeserved blessing that demonstrates God’s unfailing love.

Psalm 32:2
I frequently make mistakes…sometimes daily. Some of those mistakes leave my mind quickly, others stay in my mind and heart for a lifetime. There is always a lesson to be learned. Sometimes we are open about our mistakes other times the mistakes are left unspoken and never revealed…but God knows and always forgives.
Heavenly Father, thank you for your never failing forgiveness. Please help me navigate through the worst of my mistakes and please help me to forgive others’ mistakes as You have forgiven me. Amen
