Psalm 18:1-6
I love you, LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise,
and I have been saved from my enemies.
The cords of death entangled me;
the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
The cords of the grave coiled around me;
the snares of death confronted me.
In my distress I called to the LORD;
I cried to my God for help.
From his temple he heard my voice;
my cry came before him, into his ears.
We know now that David was clearly chosen by God to triumph in battle and to lead the people. But not all of us are chosen in this way, and not all of us have this sort of calling. Still, the message of God’s presence in our lives is clear. The devotion today touches on getting a second chance and overcoming active alcoholism. The more I have learned about AA, the more I realize it is no accident the program is so successful. AA is over 90 years old, and still the most successful path to sobriety and recovery. Spiritual connection to a Higher Power is essential to the program’s success. With God, all things are possible, all changes and second chances, improvements, growth and betterment can become reality.
Lord God, you are the God of second chances. Forgive me for my sins, my lapses, and my selfishness. Thank you for your protection and direction in this life, this world. Amen

Psalm 18:1-5. Second Chances
I/We didn't really have a plan when retirement came. My husband and I knew we were ready and so we retired and moved out of state to start the next phase of our lives. Jerry found it easy to keep busy, but I did not. I knew only a few people and they were from church and younger and still working. After several months, I realized I needed to look around to see where I might help out--where I might make a difference. Retirement became my second chance. A chance to learn new things, do new things. and go new places. Looking back, I am happy with all I've done, learned, and seen. This secon…
Psalm 18:1-6
Rock, fortress, shield, refuge…it’s all about God’s protection. In the NKJV the psalm references floods, we all have them. My floods can be anxiety that will not quiet, stress, conflict, illness or injury, grief, incessant bad news in media, the list can go on. With all the “floods” I realize my dependency on God. He is my ultimate protector, He is my safe place.
Heavenly Father, thank you for being my shield in this chaotic world and my refuge during my floods. I know I can always reach out to You and You will always be there. I am humbly grateful. Amen
Psalm 18:1-6
Calling to the Lord in times of stress can put things into perspective and restore a sense of balance and calm. I am getting ready to head to Merrimack District court to testify and the buildup to be called to the stand is always stressful. When my name is called, I will call to the Lord and God will carry me through another day in the dock.
Prayer - Lord of all, please watch over me this morning as I offer what is hopefully my best effort. My role in these proceedings is very small, but I want to be certain in the knowledge that my efforts will promote justice. Amen
