A Daily Devotion for Thursday, October 27

Isaiah 40:8

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.

I so often think of things or people as beautiful or not beautiful. But these words today remind me that all beauty comes from God. The most beautiful, most perfect things are God's Word, his love and teaching, his grace and blessings. The beauty that is God is forever, never changing, yet always at work doing a new thing.

God above, you are the essence of beauty. All of your work, your love, your grace says. "Beautiful." I am so very thankful. Amen

Isaiah 40:8 We traveled to Greenville, NH today to help our daughter unpack boxes in her new (1764) home. When we did a drive by 2 weeks ago, the drive was spectacularly beautiful with fall color. Today, it was quite different. Only a little color and mostly brown and yellow. Like Isaiah said these thing wither and change. One of the reasons I love transformers is that we read God’s words every day. These words never change. The lessons are always the same. There is always a lesson to be learned. How blessed we are to have this. Prayer: Gracious God, many thanks for sending your words through so many wonderful people. Amen

When I pick a bouquet of flowers from my garden I immediately put them up to my nose, close my eyes and take a deep smell. God’s work on this earth is always visible through the flowers, the green grass, trees and mountains. After a few days these same lovely flowers began to droop and dry up, the colours began to fade and soon their beauty was gone, all in a matter of days. In this scripture, it explains that the Word of God isn’t like the grass that withers or like my beautiful bouquet of flowers that quickly faded away in only…

Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever”

Life is like the flowers of the field and the grass below our feet. As we age, we wither like the flowers and grass of the fields. The beauty of life is that God’s love and teachings never wither. They are there always and forever. The Holy Spirit gives us the grace to acknowledge all that God is and will continue to be as we walk the road of life and praise God.

Dearest Lord, thank you for your words. I hope to find new meaning of those words everyday as I read and understand you more. Thank you for your everlasting grace…
