1Samuel 17:32-47
Psalm 36:5-6
Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
You, LORD, preserve both people and animals.
The writer of today’s devotion in The Upper Room had the experience of being out in nature every day for long stretches of time, with a new puppy. For a year she walked the dog, alone with God. In retrospect, she saw this as a time of growth which led to a real transformation in her life and her relationship with God. I am impatient, and often unwilling to wait to see a result which is developing over time. David, as a boy, knew he was capable of great things with God by his side. We are not all like David, ready for battle with the world even before adulthood. I am now a senior citizen, and still I struggle with my relationship with God. But one thing I do know-
Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
You, LORD, preserve both people and animals.
(Psalm 36:5-6)
Lord, help me to be patient, to listen, and to grow.
Amen

1 Samuel 17:32-47. Psalm 36:5-6
I grew up an only child. I have never minded being alone--in fact I often long for it. When I have too much to do and there are too many people around, I treasure my early mornings before the work begins and everyone else is awake. Peace and quiet are a treasure. It allows me quiet reflection time and time with my Upper Room and writing. In a busy life, we need a time of renewal of our spirit.
Prayer: Gracious God, I've learned being alone is not loneliness. Thank you for that wisdom. AMEN
1 Samuel 17:32-47 / Psalm 36:5-6
Although I always love a good underdog story… I focused more on the Psalm reading for today. What came to my
mind as I was reading these words was the image of the unending sky, the majesty of all the mountain ranges around the world and the vastness of our oceans. Not only are these incredible examples of God’s creation, it puts into perspective, the analogy the Psalm reading gives us of the extent of God‘s faithfulness, righteousness, and justice, all of which are unending.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unending, faithfulness, righteousness, and justice. I humbly praise You for these that You have provided for a sinner like me. Amen
