A Daily Devotion for Thursday, October 19

Ephesians 3:14-15


For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.


We hear a lot about how many different ways there are to live as family. This sentence leads me to thinking it is less important 'who' is part of a family, but more important 'how' we live as a family. Do we love one another unconditionally, protect and encourage each other? Do we honor God? I owe absolutely all that I am and all that I will ever be, to God. I am only able to love because of God's power and presence in my life.


Holy Lord, I am truly thankful to you for all of the grace you have shown me. I deserve so little, but have been given so much. ❤️Amen

Ephesians 3:14-15


We are all family because we all have the same father. I often refer to each of you as part of my church family. That is how I have always felt no matter what church I belong to. My Brother-in-law is a Southern Baptist and always uses the term brother or sister when referring to people. If only the world around us could feel this way. We are all so much more the same than we are different. It’s too bad we don’t treat each other that way.


Prayer: Gracious God, please open people’s eyes to see that we are all your children and need to be treated with love and peace, not hate and war. Amen

Ephesians 3:14-15

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.

Ephesians 3:16-19

That according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 3:14-15

I wonder If Paul is referring to the Trinity in saying that the name of every family is derived from the Father. The unifying love of each member of the Trinity is the model for familial love. All blessings of family life find their source in this type of unselfish, sacrificial love.

Prayer - Father, Son, Holy Spirit, I offer unmeasurable gratitude for the ongoing blessings of familial love. We have been blessed and continue to be blessed by the love shared in this family. Please provide for families without this blessing a pathway to renewed shared love, and restoration of all broken relationships. Amen
