Mark 9:7
Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!"
The transfiguration is an event I never really had thought much about. This morning I read some commentary and explanation of the importance of this event. By showing Jesus' deity to the disciples, they might be encouraged and their faith strengthened, in order to do the work that was before them. But in God's own audible words to them, they must "listen to him." They must listen, and take in every moment and every word Jesus would share with them. This was their path to knowing Jesus. So beautiful and powerful.
Lord, I thank you for bringing me to you. I am sorry when I let you down. Help me to be a better listener. Amen

Mark 9:7
And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.
This is one of many scriptures that I have to read the before and after verses to understand it’s meaning.. This is the second time God affirms His Son. In this gospel account we find Jesus taking Peter, James and John up onto a mountain and was transfigured before them, Moses and Elijah also appeared with Jesus. Peter was frightened, and I can sure understand that, no doubt I would be as well. After all, this is Moses and Elijah, the greatest of the prophets. But God responded with a correction to Peter,…
Mark 9:7 Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”
Do I listen to Jesus? I try to listen but most of the time I only hear silence. What I do hear are the words of the Bible that tell me all about Jesus, the Son of God. Watching the series, “The Chosen”, I have come to see what a wonderful human being Jesus was, though divine. In Him is all the love and understanding of how we are to live. Listening to Jesus and doing what he asks of me, is key to the way I live my life.
Dearest Lord, I thank…
Mark 9:7 God’s plans are not our plans; at least not mine. It seems to me if a cloud appeared over every audience to whom Jesus spoke, with the voice of God announcing today’s featured speaker is the Son of God, it would have proven to have been a powerful evangelistic tool. God, however, let’s us do that “free will” thing and it is the Holy Spirit who does the announcing in our heart.
Prayer - Merciful God, grace me with ears to truly hear our Lord, Jesus when He speaks to my heart in living this life day to day. Let my life reflect I have listened to the One whom You love. Amen
Mark 9:7
In my limited knowledge, this is the second time God spoke at an event speaking about his son. At Jesus’ baptism, God spoke saying “this is my dearly beloved son, who brings me great joy”. When God is present, pay attention. At the beginning of Jesus ministry, God spoke so people might realize who he was. At the end, God is encouraging the disciples to listen to all they have been taught and begin to spread that message to all who would listen.
Prayer: gracious God, may I also listen to Jesus’ message and spread his love. Amen
