Hebrews 4:9-10
There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.
Genesis 2:2-3
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
God set the example for us. We are invited to take a day of rest. We have traditionally made that seventh day our day of worship, as well. Think how life would be if we really didn't do our leftover office work, taxes, housecleaning, bill-paying, etc. on Sunday. First of all, Saturdays would be busier, for sure. But Sundays could be truly restful! We could do only things which bring us joy, and bring us closer to God!
Holy Lord, thank you for these messages from your Word this morning. I need to consider some changes. You are here for me, and yet I forget to ask. Amen

Hebrews 4:9-10 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.
The Sabbath was a symbol of Jesus and now it is a New Testament reality. We can trust in the finished work of Christ and rest continually in this. We don’t have to set aside one day a week to…

Genesis 2:2–3
I am old enough to remember the blue laws. Nothing was open on Sunday for shopping, except maybe some small mom and pop stores. The only people working where those essential workers, like fire and police. All the families I knew spent Sunday In church and then with each other. For me, it was always coffee and donuts at aunt Jean’s after church and then Sunday dinner with the extended family at different homes each week. The afternoons were for the cousins to play and connect with each other. If this sounds idyllic, it was. I think this was our holy rest. What happened? How did we get so busy that these things were not importan…
Hebrews 4:9-10, Genesis 2:2-3
Rest means something different for everyone. The Hebrew people would not light a match to prepare their meal, while someone else may climb a mountain for rest. Keeping the Sabbath holy is something else entirely. My family used Sunday as a time to get together. I hope God thinks that spending the day with loved ones is a way to rest and keep the day holy.
Dear Lord, attending church is usually the extent of keeping Sunday holy for me. I hope that keeping your commandments the rest of the week satisfies you. Amen.

Hebrews 4:9-10
So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.
Genesis 2:2-3
And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.
Although Israel saw God’s miracles every day, they could not enter into his rest because of their disbelief. This tells us clearly that God did rest, on the seventh day…
Hebrews 4:9-10/Genesis 2:2-3
Very few of us observe Sabbath in the Scriptural sense. There are a million excuses, but in the end we choose treat Sunday no differently than any other day. I worked every other Sunday for twenty years. Even now Sunday will often find me reviewing cases or writing reports. Most retail businesses are open on Sunday. Professional athletes all work on Sunday during their seasons. Super Bowl Sunday is practically a national holiday. Could it be that part of church renewal is a true observance of Sabbath by believers with the focus on God translating into a stronger presence of God throughout the remainder of our week?
Prayer - God of the Sabbath, we are commanded to…
