A Daily Devotion for Thursday, Feb. 13

John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

The world needed (and still needs) Jesus to find its way. We can't do it on our own. How do we share the transformative power of Jesus without turning others off? How do we introduce others to the story of Jesus and his life on earth? I am thinking that one way is through the arts- movies, visual art, music, literature both fictional and non-fictional, which include relationships and experiences with God. These things can start a conversation and possibly awaken curiosity in others. God softens hearts, but we are to be good witnesses.

Holy Lord, help me to find opportunities to share with others in a genuine and Godly way. I want to do my part to lead others to you. Amen

Becky, transforming

John 14:6

Yet again, a short, familiar scripture that is so very powerful, so much in one sentence. Jesus’ response to Thomas is a clear roadmap for all. As previously mentioned, I could and should do a lot better in sharing this roadmap. What did come to mind when I read this was mission work. As February is Missions Month, I have listened with great interest and curiosity to the “moment for missions”speakers and their work in far reaching places in this world. How I admire those who have put their lives on hold to share God‘s word and the salvation he offers. I love the congregation response when the numbers of people who have come to know Christ is reported…

John 14:6

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

It’s interesting because these words are only recorded in the gospel of John . Matthew, Mark, and Luke, do not mention that Jesus ever said these words. While we don’t know for sure why these words were not listed ,one thing might be that Matthew, Mark, and Luke, felt the story of Jesus was complete without Jesus ever saying, I am the way, the truth and the life. The words, actions, and miracles of Jesus should give christians confidence to trust that He will make good on His promises. He guarantees…

John 14:6

Thanks goodness for Thomas! Although I'm sure all the disciples had the same question on their minds, only our "doubting" Thomas had the bravery to actually say it out loud. Jesus' answer is our roadmap so to speak. It is our way to God. We need to understand that Jesus has clearly offered us all we need to know. Our belief in Jesus Christ offers us the knowledge of how we should live our lives--following his teachings and love.

Prayer: Gracious God, Teach me how to do more to show the world around me "the way." AMEN

John 14:6

This is one of the most controversial teachings of Jesus in a world where pluralism is held in such very high esteem. The exclusivity of Jesus as the conduit to God is rejected by many, including a significant number of Christians. I just wonder if that is because we do not fully understand how and by what means Jesus operates in the world. Jesus comes to each of us individually in mysterious Holy Spirit ways that are suited to each different human heart. Whether or not His invitation to what Christians call salvation and eternal life is accepted by that human heart is a function of the free will God instilled in each of those hearts. Believers help…
