Psalm 20:7

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses,

but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

When there is a lot going on in my life, I can have trouble sleeping. I usually fall to sleep like I have just run a marathon, soundly and deeply. But if I wake up in the middle of the night, my brain turns up the clarity and speed and then it is very difficult for me to fall back to sleep. I have learned that if I turn to God, and ask for peace, I can begin to relax. I often will turn my mind to a few passages of scripture I have memorized, and go over them slowly, remembering their meaning and importance. Before I know it, the alarm is going off- I have fallen back asleep and now I need to get up! God is good, and He does know what we need. We must always turn to Him.

Holy Lord, today I am grateful for your “ever-presence” in my life. You do not fail. When I fail, you hear me call out to you. I am so thankful, Amen

Psalm 20:7

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

David expresses confidence in the Lord as more powerful than an army's horses and chariots. In the ancient day, horses were primarily useful for war, oxen or other livestock were used for work. Chariots, likewise, were designed for military purposes. The Psalmist here says, I don’t trust in any of those things. I have a much greater more dependable place to put my trust, and that is in the name of the Lord, my God.For David to say this when he needs military help in battle, he…

Psalm 19:7-14 Psal 20:7

I'm one of those people who often needs to know the if's, and's, and but's of a situation, AND it's always good to have a Plan B. Instead of over preparing (a little prep is good) I should be praying about that is happening and ask for guidance and comfort. As the author said, we need to not just trust ourselves, but add God's wisdom and direction.

Prayer: Gracious God, I pray you slow me down at times so I may invite you into my problems. AMEN

Psalm 20:7 Our Camino trip is looming large in my mind. Sure enough, final preparations are being encroached upon by countless interruptions and distractions, urgent requests and last minute tasks. I look forward to simply unplugging. This is a place where indeed i cannot count on chariots or horses to do what needs to be done. I will trust in the Lord to get my aching feet, throbbing knees and barking hips to the next bed for the night. Stripped of all the worldly distractions, I trust as well that the Holy Spirit will bring to mind what I need to know in order to strengthen my walk with Jesus.

Prayer - Holy God, I place my trust in You, Lord.…
