A Daily Devotion for Thursday, April 18

Writer: ontrakkontrakk

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

The more I turn to the Holy Spirit, listening closely and following its lead, the more I will experience these fruits. The Holy Spirit is God in me, and is available 24/7. Why do I “forget” this when I am hurting or in need of guidance? The more I communicate with and follow the Holy Spirit, the more joy I will experience. I have lost track of this truth lately, and will do my best to get back on a better path.

Holy Lord, thank you for this reminder of the gifts that are available to me and to everyone who believes in you and follows your Word. Amen

Becky, transforming

Galatians 5:22-23

Nine fruit plus one Holy Spirit, plus a too busy person = fewer fruits realized. We need to be less busy, and find some quiet time to listen to the Holy Spirit. We need to be still if we are to hear and feel the work of the Holy Spirit within ourselves. This is something I need to be sure to do each day.

Prayer: Gracious God, I try to be still and listen for your voice, knowing the many fruits you will bring to me. Amen

Walking in the fruit of the spirit involves being patient, kind, humble, displaying good manners not being selfish. Although it would be nice if you and I could automatically behave this way toward other people, it rarely happens without using self-control. I  may be able to do it sometimes but at other times I may not feel well physically or a day might be filled with frustrations, and I am so far removed from the Holy Spirit. I thank God he is patient with me  and will continue helping me to…

Galatians 5:22-23

I remember the frequently used phrase when I was a kid, “There ought to be a law.” We rarely hear that today when there are tens of thousands of laws encroaching on every aspect of our lives. Thankfully, even I cannot see a day when our busybody legislatures pass laws against the fruit of the Spirit. One measure of its power is the joy shown by followers of Christ even in countries where Christianity is literally against the law and in some cases punishable by death. Christian joy is like no other, giving believers the strength to endure life’s challenges.

Prayer - Holy Spirit, grant me a healthy measure of Your fruit that can make so much of…
