Matthew 6:19-24
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
I love to go to yard sales. I love finding little “treasures” that I think someone else might like. I probably buy too much junk. I rationalize it by calling it recycling or reusing or some other positive term. At the end of the day, though, it is all just “stuff”. No stuff can ever get in the way of my relationship with God. Nothing can ever take the place of what I have in Jesus. There is nothing I could ever buy or own that would mean more to me than God. I only have one master.
Holy Lord, I will do my best always and every day to stay connected, searching and listening for you. You are my rock and the Giver of Peace. I am so very thankful to you. Amen

Matthew 6:19-24
Like many in my age group, I spend a lot of time trying to “downsize”. Piles of “earthly treasures” I sort through and struggle with the idea of parting with. I’m trying to be better, these are very much for, the most part, things I surely do not need and can live without. I can’t understand why it is so difficult. I have what I need, a loving family, good friends, a warm home, food to eat, clothes to wear and most importantly the salvation that God has granted me through His Son, Jesus.
Dear Lord, thank You for providing my every need but most especially for Your Grace. Amen
Matthew 6:19-24
Many years ago teaching Sunday School at another church, we did a unit on Spiritual Treasurers. We displayed a small pirates treasure trunk, closed with a few jewels hanging outside of it. At the end of the unit, we had the children open the trunk. What did they find?--A Bible. That is our treasure. All we need to live as God wants us to live.
Prayer: Gracious God, may I never forget where to look for comfort and advice--my Bible. AMEN
Matthew 6:19-24
Treasures in heaven for the longest time did not register with me until I started genuine spiritual formation when we lived in New York. There ia genuinely no need for a new flashy car every year, no need for ostentatious materialism. As I head into legacy mode I realize just how eternally important treasure in heaven can be. If my tombstone reads, “He stored treasures in heaven,” my life can be counted as worthwhile.
Prayer - God of abundance, help me share the abundance with which I have been blessed to be a blessing to others. Amen

Matthew 6:20
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
No one can serve money and the Master at the same time. We cannot commit our heart and lives to the Jesus, serving and glorifying him , if we are lusting after the things of this world. And so we are encouraged by the Jesus Himself to lay up eternal treasures in heaven ..First, we know we will be called to account for our lives and we should take it seriously. Second, knowing we will be accountable for our present position, it is time to…
