A Daily Devotion for Monday, October 9

Mark 10:13-16

People were bringing little children for Jesus to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.

What did Jesus see in the children which made them so dear to him? What are we to emulate, to learn, from children? Perhaps Jesus appreciated the children for their honest openness to learn new things, their trust, and their capacity to love without judgement. I think of children as loyal and affectionate, protective and trusting at the same time. What happens to us? What can we still learn from children about true faith in God? What can I learn today?

Holy Father, help me to be more childlike in ways which draw me closer to you. Help me to see the truth in your words, and apply that Truth to my life. Amen

Mark 10:13-16

And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

I love children , I love hugs from little children, I love talking to little ones. And I love watching parents who delight in their babies and as they watch them grow…

Mark 10:13-16 The old saying goes, “A man never stands as tall as when he stoops to help a child.” Jesus teaches a beautiful and important lesson about ministry to the disciples and to us. When we neglect to attend to the spiritual needs of children, the church withers. They are the source of enthusiasm, discovery and wonder. Children can teach us as much as we teach them. Devaluing children as a nuisance diminishes ministry and is a mistake that would surely sadden Jesus and grieves the Holy Spirit.

Prayer - Lord, we sing, “Jesus loves the little children.” May we love and nurture the little ones in our tiny corners of the world so that they may come to know…

Mark 10:13-16. The blessing of the children.

Well, here he is again spending his precious time with the wrong people—at least according to the disciples. They wanted him to impress those with power in order to avoid all the criticism about him. But Jesus is showing them and us that we should be with and help those who need it most, especially the children. Children simply need to know someone cares. Maybe it’s a hug, a touch, or a kind word. Jesus did all these things in this story. This builds trust. Jesus wants that from us.

Prayer: Gracious God, The parents in this story must have been so amazed by His actions. Perhaps now the disciples were beginning …
