A Daily Devotion for Monday, November 28

Isaiah 40:25-31

“To whom will you compare me?

Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.

Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:

Who created all these?

He who brings out the starry host one by one

and calls forth each of them by name.

Because of his great power and mighty strength,

not one of them is missing.

Why do you complain, Jacob?

Why do you say, Israel,

“My way is hidden from the LORD;

my cause is disregarded by my God”?

Do you not know?

Have you not heard?

The LORD is the everlasting God,

the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He will not grow tired or weary,

and his understanding no one can fathom.

He gives strength to the weary

and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary,

and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the LORD

will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not be faint.

The image of a sapling tethered to a sturdy support is a helpful one. There is room to grow, but growing in the right direction is clearly encouraged. There is support for that dangerous unexpected storm that could knock us over.

Sapling in the wind

Remembering its Father

Feeling His presence.

Holy Lord, you are always here for me. I never have to check in ahead or make an appointment. Whenever I feel shaken or unsure of how to handle myself or my feelings, I can come to you. This saves me from many winds in this life, and I am truly thankful. I love you, Lord. Amen

Isaiah 40:25-31

I love the writers analogy of the post to support the saplings. None of us will escape this earthly life without hardship, but with a the supporting post, our God, we will weather every storm.

Dear God, thank You for being my strength and my salvation. Amen

Isaiah 40:25-31. Surviving the Storms

Today's devotion author explains how he used supports to help his young trees withstand the wind and grow straight and tall. What supports do we have to withstand life's storms? My first thought was the hymn, "The Lord is my Strength." In addition to our faith and trust in Him, we have his words. We have our church and our Pastor and our church family. We know there will be difficult times--He told us this, but he also reminded us that He will be with us. He will be with us always.

Prayer: Gracious God, I know you are near and that I can call on you for strength always. AMEN

Surviving the storms

(focus: those recovering from storms

Isaiah 40:29

He gives strength  to the weary, and  increases the power of the weak

Although God gives power to the faint and weary, if we are  worn-out from continually exceeding our physical limits, we know to rest. God gives us more energy in some areas of our life, because he knows we need it. But it is also very wise for us to personally relate to our physical limits and never push our bodies beyond what is healthy. It is important to take care of our bodies (just as the supported posts needed to take care of the trees) because God wants to use our bodies and if…

Isaiah 40:25-31

“. . . those who hope in the LORD

will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will walk and not be faint.“

Other translations say “those who wait on the Lord.” I’m in a position of waiting right now, staring at a 6 1/2 hour flight delay. This reflection will help me re-focus, calm down and let God handle this.

Prayer - Thank you, Lord for a word in season to help me through the bumps on the road of life. Amen
