John 7:38
“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
Although Jesus’ reference to Scripture is unclear, the meaning of his use of the metaphor of water to mean the Holy Spirit seems clear enough. I read a commentary this morning that encapsulated this meaning for me; the writer pointed out the thirst one feels who seeks God, and that only the Holy Spirit quenches this thirst. I know for myself, though, that even though the Spirit is within me, I do not always pay attention. I can still feel thirsty . But I know what I need to do, and that is to turn once again to God in faith.
Holy Lord, you have made yourself available to me, 24/7. Help me to remember, and always turn back to you when I am pulled in the wrong direction. Amen

From time to time, I find myself in the place where I am spiritually tired and drained. The demands of every day life can produce a loss of the Holy Spirit causing me to neglect spiritual matters. I find myself in places that become tired, frustrated, weak, and drained of my vitality.
Life can sometimes be dry like the desert, but the Holy Spirit is always represented by refreshing rivers of living water. We all need water for our mortal bodies, and we all need the living water of the Holy Spirit for our…
John 7:38
It does not matter how thirsty one may be. If you don’t open the tap, pump the water from the well or open the bottle you will remain parched and dry. Faith and belief start the flow of living water that is the forever available to quench the dryness that life in a fallen world can impose on our spirit. In another group we discussed the difference between routine and crisis prayers. Compare them to carrying a water bottle around and having a rescuer douse you when your clothes are on fire. Christ’s living water can meet all our needs - perhaps not in the way we imagined - but according to God’s plan.
