A Daily Devotion for Monday, May 30

Romans 3:10

As it is written “There is no one righteous, not even one;”

This verse reminds us brokenness is not just a temporary, “sometimes” condition or state of mind. As human beings we are always in need of God’s healing and guidance. We do not grow out of our need for God’s healing and grace. “There is no one righteous.” I am reminded of this every day by my own selfish and impulsive tendencies, which tend to hang on.

Holy Father God, I am loved as part of your creation, but I know I still need work. May I remember to follow you faithfully and to seek you always. Amen

Romans 3:10

As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one;

Most people think they will go to heaven because, in their mind , they are good people. When the Bible says that “there is none who is righteous it doesn’t mean that people are as bad as they can be or that people are incapable of doing anything right. People are capable of doing good things. They can be kind or thoughtful, give generous gifts, and care for the disadvantaged. Even an atheist can be a philanthropist. However, no amount of good deeds can change the fact that we are sinful by nature. The LORD looks on all mankind to see if there are…

Romans 3:10 As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one

I was born broken. I can never say that I am so good that I deserve heaven. I was born a sinner, guilty before God. Salvation is a wonderful gift from the God who loves me through the death of Jesus Christ. My faith in God and the redemption I was promised keeps me attempting to always do what is right and pleasing to God.

Dearest Lord, I thank you for the saving grace that you have given to me freely. You offered salvation to all that believe in you and trust you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Romans 3:10 As the Scriptures say, no one is righteous – not even one. Not even me. Not the “I am a good person, me” Not the me that almost never misses church, is part of a Bible group, reads a devotion each day and post a devotion most days. I think all of the above makes me more aware of my sinfulness. We are all sinners of one kind or another. I’m not working on being righteous. I’m just working to be a better me. Prayer: gracious God, may I use all of the above actions to keep me closer to you as I journey through this life. Amen

Romans 3:8

Paul seems very blunt is this message to the Romans, but he is citing Psalm 14:1-3. This concept may not have been new to Jews in Rome, but likely shocked gentiles. Even today, it is very easily forgotten or ignored in our self-delusion of “I’m a good person.” Coming honestly before God is a humbling experience that makes my brokenness obvious. The good news is that I can come before the throne of grace because even though I am yet a sinner, Christ died for me. Reliance on that reality and not my own power is the only thing that will restore my broken soul.

Prayer - Forgiving God, I come before You with a contrite heart, but…
