Psalm 109:21-31
But you, Sovereign LORD,
help me for your name’s sake;
out of the goodness of your love, deliver me.
For I am poor and needy,
and my heart is wounded within me.
I fade away like an evening shadow;
I am shaken off like a locust.
My knees give way from fasting;
my body is thin and gaunt.
I am an object of scorn to my accusers;
when they see me, they shake their heads.
Help me, LORD my God;
save me according to your unfailing love.
Let them know that it is your hand,
that you, LORD, have done it.
While they curse, may you bless;
may those who attack me be put to shame,
but may your servant rejoice.
May my accusers be clothed with disgrace
and wrapped in shame as in a cloak.
With my mouth I will greatly extol the LORD;
in the great throng of worshipers I will praise him.
For he stands at the right hand of the needy, to save their lives from those who would condemn them.
I don’t experience any strong connection with this psalm, largely because the writer asks God to bring shame and disgrace on his enemies. This is not something I spend any time thinking about, and I certainly do not pray for it. On the other hand, the writer does leave the judgement and the outcome up to God, recognizes His protection and is thankful. And the psalmist also recognizes it is God who can and will save him, and it is God who deserves all praise.
Holy Lord, you are in control and I am not. You are in charge of delivering justice to those who are in the wrong. Keep me safe, Lord, and help me to see your path and follow it. I know you have given me my own lane. Amen

HEALING THROUGH THE PSALMS
(Focus. Families that don’t get along.
Today’s reading. Psalm 109:21-31
Psalm 109:26-27
Help me, O Lord my God! Save me according to your steadfast love! Let them know that this is your hand; you, O Lord, have done it!
It was very important to David that his enemies and all who looked on him knew his rescue was from God’s hand that the LORD had done it. He didn’t want to be rescued just for his own sake, but also to give the glory to God. I can surely relate to the author in the upper room because approaching God with humility by sharing raw emotions, pain, and brokenness without holding back about our personal…
Psalm 109:21-31
King David, more than anyone else in Scripture, brought prayers of complaint to God. We tend to avoid this manner of praying, but God knows our heart. As humans, we can very rarely see the value of the trials we may face. Bringing our complaint to God shows our faith and trust in God’s promise to never leave, nor forsake us if prayed in that spirit. Even Jesus, in his humanity, uttered the words David wrote in Psalm 22 at the time of His greatest trial; “My, God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” We can do the same.
Prayer - God, please show us Your mercy as we look around our world and see pain, hardship,…
