A Daily Devotion for Monday, June 16

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

I can’t read or hear this verse without including the next verse: “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” This is the peace we all long for, that we find so hard to come by in our day to day lives. I find it maddening that even after experiencing this miracle so many times, I still forget to turn to God. I waste time worrying and trying to figure a way out.

Holy Lord, thank-you for this reminder of your promise. Be with me, I pray, and help me to find peace and keep peace in my heart. Amen

Philippians 4:6

We’ve talked about, in this group previously, how difficult it is sometimes to let go and turn things over to God. I tend to be a “fixer” and there in lies my frustration, sometimes the fixer can’t fix. I will say that I focused more on the rest of the Philippians reading and felt what the scripture was saying to me is to focus on what is good, what is positive, what brings joy. I believe if I maintain a more optimistic view towards life and on my relationship with God, I will be happier and perhaps it will be easier to turn things over to God without frustration.

Why is it we let life get us down in the dumps before we realize who we need to turn to? I guess it is human nature to try to stay in control of all situations. How much steadier and peaceful life would be if we simply spoke to God everyday about everything--asking for help when necessary and giving thanks at all other times.

Prayer: Gracious God, May I always know how close you are when I need you. AMEN

NEVER ALONE

(Focus: Those worried about

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Quite simply put This verse encourages us to replace worry with prayer and gratitude, trusting God with our concerns. Tell God what I need, and thank him for all he has done. When I do this, I do experience God's peace, which exceeds anything I can understand. His peace confronts me and guides my  heart and my mind  as I live each day.

Lord and savior, every time something arises that gives me anxiety or I find myself  worried and stressed… help me to pause,…

The fruit of the spirit nourishes the soul, staving off worry. This is especially true for worry over things beyond my control. If I do my best to manage what is within my power to manage in a God-honoring way and turn the rest over to God, the result will be peace, even if there is adversity. Our verse this morning pulls no punches. This mindset is to apply “in every situation.” This is a tall order, but the Holy Spirit will equip us to carry it out in faith through grace.

Prayer - Gracious and merciful God, I pray for the measure of grace I need today - my daily bread - to power me through what…
