A Daily Devotion for Monday, June 14

Deuteronomy 31:7-8

Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their forefathers to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Sometimes things don’t go the way we thought they would go. And sometimes we just don’t like going through what we know we have to go through. But God’s promises do not change. My life with God has only grown richer and more meaningful over these last three years with Pastor Gil. This essential and precious part of my life cannot be taken away. God will be here with me today and tomorrow as well as all the tomorrows to come.

Father God, thank you for sending Pastor Gil to lead us. He has done so much to help me, and to help all of us, to seek you, to find you, and to make a comfortable home for you in our hearts. I am so grateful to you. Please protect Pastor Gil and his family; he is so very precious to us. Amen

Deuteronomy 31: 7-8 Moses recognized he was not able to lead the Israelites , both because of his age and because the Lord had told him that he would not be the one to do it. Moses did not hand-pick Joshua. Moses asked God to appoint a leader to follow him, and God told him that Joshua was that man. But Joshua was very different in gifts and style than Moses was. New leadership is often quite difficult . But, obedience, faith, and dependence on God made Joshua one of Israel's strongest leaders. He provided a bold example for us to follow, he chose to follow God, and he did it faithfully. Our very own church is facing a c…

In the short time I have been attending Hillside I have learned so much from Pastor Gil. His sermons teach us so much about what it means to be a Christian. I pray that he and his family will be blessed in their journey to Maine. God will go before them and protect them in all the challenges that may arise. God speed.

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Of all the promises of God, and I understand that there are around 6000 promises of God in Scripture, this is the most profound. From the appearance of the rainbow after the Flood we Have had God’s promise that humankind would never be forsaken. The promise was sealed in the atoning death of Jesus. Indeed we have nothing to fear. Like all great leaders before him, Pastor Gil is reminding his flock that even as he moves on we are still under Gos protection, Jesus’ teaching and the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Rosalind’s post reminded me of the Irish Prayer of St.…

Deuteronomy 31: 7-8

8 "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Pastor Gil’s sermon yesterday reinforced what I have come to understand so much better since Pastor Gil’s arrival in Contoocook on that Sunday in July 2018. Listening to his sermons then and since have been so inspiring to me that I was born again to know God as I have never known him before. It is through Pastor Gil’s ministry and the way he presents the words of the Bible that have been so inspiring to me. I now find that if I go right or left off the…

Deuteronomy 31:7-8 Then Moses called for Joshua, and as all Israel watched, he said to him, “be strong and courageous!. For you will lead these people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors he would give them. You are the one who will divide it among them as their grants of land. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” There is that wonderful phrase again. “Do not be afraid.” I have written about this verse before, but I am still struck by it. Moses is teaching Joshua a most important lesson. Remember, the Lord will always be behind…
