Psalm 40:17
But as for me, I am poor and needy;
may the Lord think of me.
You are my help and my deliverer;
you are my God, do not delay.
The writer of today’s devotion called out to God in prayer, and received a blessing from God. Sometimes I wonder when we are encouraged to pray in specifics. (Spell it out- what are you in need of?) This can seem like we are testing God. But in reality, when I am specific with God, I am more aware of how He has sent help to me. It helps me to see God’s hand in everything around me. And, thanking God in advance, right along with my “ask”, reminds me that God is listening. It is a statement of our faith. (Special thanks to Kay L of Hillside who taught this to the Transformers through example.)
Holy Lord, you do not always choose to answer each specific prayer in the way we anticipate, but you do hear us. Help us to see your will and your way in all that we go through. I am thankful for your goodness and your grace. I am thankful for the peace you so freely send my way. Amen

Psalm 47:17
The Upper Room writer talks about his need and the answer from God that is immediate. This happens from time to time, when keys are misplaced at a very critical time or when severe weather is causing stress while driving, there are many examples. Then there are prayers that may go on for years. I believe that God hears it all and the answers may be immediate, the answers may take a while or the answers may take an unexpected form. Regardless, trust in God to manage my life is what is important. He has been there for me in the past and will always be there as I move forward in this life.
Heavenly Father, thank you…
Psalm 40:1-13
I often pray similar prayers as the author of today's devotion. They are prayers that need to be answered sooner rather than later. Sometimes they are answered, sometimes not, but I am always thankful that I have a God who is listening. Last spring we were traveling south and we were caught in some bad weather--torrential downpours that made the lines of the road impossible to see and even the tail lights on the vehicles in front of us were difficult to see. Believe me I prayed--and Jerry concentrated on driving. I just prayed that the rain would lighten up so we could see. Eventually it did. I didn't realize how tense my body was. I finally…

Psalm 40:17
As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God!
To know that I am in God’s thoughts, to have me on his mind; along with the rest of his creation, to be constantly reminded he will never forsake me. It matters very little who does forsake me because he will not. So in my breath prayers during the day I will not forget to thank God for always being with me,wherever I go or whatever I do. Just as David did I will acknowledge my vulnerabilities, placing trust in…
Psalm 40:17
What constitutes a “delay” to God? 2 Peter 3:8 says, “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” The Creator of the universe has a lot more to “think” about than me and my needs. Yet I take it on faith the Lord cares for me. Part of giving thanks for this loving care is staying in prayer for the needs I have, even those that seem to go on endlessly. For the writer of today’s Upper Room reflection, his need was met in his human time. Would he have written the same reflection if he had to stay…
