Hebrews 13:7
Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.
When I was at home with my parents, we were members of a large Methodist church in the next town over, where my parents grew up. My dad had gone to that church as a child. While I was growing up we had the same pastor, the whole time I lived at home! He was kind and friendly, but I often felt I was not living up to my potential as a Christian. I think that is partly my personality, but sometimes his sermons made me feel kind of lousy. But I know he was a good man, who gave his entire life to God, to lead and to teach. I never doubted his honesty or truthfulness. My parents stayed in touch with him for many years after he retired. He was a good man.
Father God, I am thankful for those you have put in my path to help me to learn and grow as a Christian. You never stop putting people in my life who can help me along, and I am grateful. I am most grateful for your Son, my Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen
