A Daily Devotion for Friday, October, 8

Psalm 86:5

You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you.

God created us as beings who need each other. Without forgiveness, we would be set against each other. We would never be able to cooperate, to grow in friendship, to trust one another with small or enormously important things. True forgiveness allows us to move forward with relationships. Holding onto past hurts locks us into a painful place. God has always wanted each of us to be the best we can be. God forgives my sins. I will forgive others’.

Lord, thank you for this beautiful new day. Create in me a clean heart, full of forgiveness at every turn. I am yours. Amen

Posting late Psalm 86:5 Of all important people in the Old Testament, David had such a wonderful relationship with God. Fully human and flawed, David knew who to turn to. His heart knew Gods love was absolute. He also knew that forgiveness was his just for the asking. The Psalms are so full of David’s wonderful prayers of joy and forgiveness. We should read them more often. Prayer: Gracious God, May I never forget the depths of your love for me no matter what I have done. Amen

Psalm 86:5

I deeply resonate with Dave‘s post this morning. I can much more easily recall times I needed or should have asked for forgiveness than identify things for which I should forgive others. As I write this morning though, I am struck with a lesson as recent as yesterday. Instead of forgiving the people and system that wasted my entire day in Springfield, MA, I brought my resentment and foul mood home, ruining not only my own evening, but Becky’s as well. By failing to forgive I behaved in such a way as to need forgiveness. I will forgive them and ask Becky to forgive me and go into a long weekend up in Randolph refreshed and ready to…

Psalms 86: 5 David knows the Lord. He has experienced his grace and knows that he is good and forgiving. He is trusting in God’s grace to be heard, just as we should . He is not going anywhere else but to the Lord with his request . He is not seeking help from any one else. He trusts the Lord is listening, assured by His promise of love and commitment that his prayer is heard and he will receive what is best from the Lord. This is a wonderful psalm for it is giving God our devoted trust whenever we are in times of deep trouble. God is alive and able to do mighty deeds for those…

Psalm 86: 5 You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.

Even before Jesus walked this earth, the people that believe in God knew that he was a forgiving God. Jesus died so that we could be forgiven. When I think of this, it is so much to take in. To die for people so that they could have eternal life. This gift of forgiveness is sometimes above my understanding. Following this example of forgiveness is the way to heaven.

Dearest Lord, you forgive me even when I don’t feel I deserve it. You are an all forgiving God and I thank you for all you do for me every day. In Jes…

Psalm 86:5 You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.

I believe in forgiveness because Jesus taught it, but the Psalmist believed in God’s forgiveness without that assurance. I have had a hard time writing about forgiveness because I don’t remember many times when I needed to forgive except within my family. I have needed forgiveness more times than I can count because of things said in anger. Forgiving people when they say something to me in anger is a no-brainer because I probably caused their anger in the first place.

Dear Lord you forgive me no matter what I do or say. I will try to live up to that example. Amen.
