Psalm 121:1-8
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The LORD will keep you from all harm —
he will watch over your life;
the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
While we are on this earth, we will have trouble. Jesus acknowledged this, and we know it firsthand. But we also know that God hears our cries for help and our cries for peace. I have been noticing how often the psalms contain this very experience; I called out to you, God, and you responded. I have begun to go through the Psalms and highlight each verse which holds this truth. So far, I am at Psalm 72, and I have highlighted 13 different passages in 13 different psalms that state this truth from firsthand experience. That’s 18%! This is comforting to me, and strengthens my faith. This is not just an experience that I have imagined, or exaggerated. This is a very real thing, experienced by generation after generation of believers!
Holy Lord, you hear me call out, and let me know in a very real way. I am so thankful. You have sent peace to me so many times, and continue to provide comfort. Help me to turn that love and comfort back to your creation. May I in some way be useful as your answer to someone else’s prayer for help? Could I be the smile or the encouragement someone desperately needs today? Lead me, I pray. Amen

Psalm 121:1-8. John 16:33.
For most believers, it is easy to say I trust in my Lord. I imagine, however, when you are in the depths of depression, or addiction, or illness it is hard to remember to give that all over to God. There is an Anthem we sing called, "Trust in the Lord." It reminds us to trust when we most need him. When our world is falling apart, sharing that with God is important. It reminds us that we are not alone--He is by our side guiding us through this valley.
Prayer: Gracious God, I know I must remember my own advice--trusting in you always. AMEN

Trusting God
(Focus: people suffering from anxiety
John 16:33
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
This verse is similar to my life verse Romans 12:2 , in that we must be of the world not in it, just as Jesus overcame the world. In addition this verse teaches me that I can surely count on difficulties In my life. but I am learning to be strong which is another way of saying I can stay positive because Jesus has taken away the hardship of any power to harm me. I don’t think this vers…
Psalm 121:1-8/John 16:33
I have had the rather strange experience (as have others) of talking about something and then very soon seeing pop up ads or other notifications on my phone or laptop about the subject. I’m feeling a bit that way this morning in that Roz cited Psalm 121 on Tuesday in relation to going under the knife at her dermatologist’s office and I have John 16:33b posted on the shelf next to my desk. This morning they are brought together in a reflection of God’s promise of protection and peace, as if to emphasize what was already in the back of my mind. This is an example of one of the “thin places” where God’s presence seems near.…
Palm 128:1-8 / John 16:33
None of us will escape the trials of life. How we handle those trials will make a difference in the outcome, calling out to God should be our first response. As time goes on, this response becomes more and more second hand. The arrogance of youth gets in the way of this many times. I, gratefully, have had the blessing of not having any life event that I was not able to move past, some that involved immense grief, some that required forgiveness, some that spiked my anxiety and more. With God I made it to the other side of these troubles and with God I will make it to the other side of this…
