A Daily Devotion for Friday, November 5

1Peter 2:24

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

This is the ultimate healing. We no longer need to fear death as the beginning of nothingness. We have been promised otherwise. Our very souls have been healed by the sacrifice of Christ. I admit, sometimes I am fearful this sounds too good to be true. Am I presuming too much when I include myself in this promise? God tells me otherwise, with these words and in many other ways.

Father God, I know I am undeserving. I also know I am one of your children, and you include me in your promises. I will do my best. Help me to be an example to others. Amen

1 Peter 2:24

Christ died for our sins in our place so we would not have to suffer the punishment we deserve. As long as Christians are in this world, we will still struggle with our old ways and commit sin, for which we should repent and ask for God's forgiveness. But our old ways no longer have the control over us that it did before we accepted Jesus as our lord and savior (by faith) we can instead live for righteousness through the powerful gift of the Holy Spirit, because again I will say, Jesus bore the full penalty for our sins in His body on the cross. For God so loved the world that he gave his o…

1 Peter 2:24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

Sometimes I think my mind is too literal to fully grasp what the bible is telling me. To me, healing applies to a physical or mental problem and as such I can feel better physically by knowing that Jesus’ death and resurrection has assured me of eternal life if I only believe in Him. This “healing” must be performed daily for me by exposure to God’s word.

Dear Lord, help me to stop over-thinking the words that are in the bible and to accept them as they are…

If Jesus had not died on the cross and endured unjust suffering, we would never had been saved. Jesus bore our sins on the cross. His death was payment for the penalty of our sinful actions. The wounds and suffering of Jesus allowed us to be healed. It opened up our way to eternal life.

Dearest Lord, thank you for sending your Son to die for our sins. It was a terrible sacrifice that brought healing to our souls. What a wonderful gift this is. In Je…

1Peter 2:24

Our spiritual healing comes at great cost, but Peter reminds us the cost was paid for us in the death of Jesus. Reflecting on the times I wished I could take on the pain that Becky or one of the kids were feeling over one issue or another then trying to come to grips with the fact that Jesus did it for all people in all times and all places brings fresh meaning to the word “holy.”

Prayer - “Holy, holy, holy, Lord. God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Hosanna in the highest.” Amen
