Lamentations 3:19-26
I remember my affliction and my wandering.
the bitterness and the gall.
I well remember them,
and my soul is downcast within me.
Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.”
The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;
it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the LORD.
After reading today’s scripture and devotion, I found myself thinking, “Well, I am not really like that. I don’t feel impatient for God to do anything in my life.” But that is NOT TRUE! Even if I don’t acknowledge feeling impatient, it is easy for me to overlook the incremental steps God is taking with me or with my loved ones. Progress is also answered prayer. I need to remember to thank God for progress and for peace along the way.
Holy Lord, I know you hear my prayers. Help me to be more aware of small positive steps which are great gifts and answered prayer. Amen

God’s Timing
( Focus: For patience as I pray.
Lamentations 3:25-26
The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.
Jeremiah was a man appointed and chosen by God as a prophet .Jeremiah is also known as the weeping prophet because he was profoundly sad due to the wickedness of his people and destruction of Jerusalem about to happen. His sadness was a combination of grief over the sin of his people, a lonely and persecuted ministry where he was rejected, and immense personal suffering, but his faith in God's unfailing love offered hope. Lamentations 3:19-26
Jeremiah and Jerusalem were at their lowest--defeated and dying. Yet, in the midst of his sorrow, Jeremiah remembers God. God's HOPE for us in our future. Lamentations contains that wonderful line "his mercies begin afresh each morning." Such strong trust that all will be well--at some point.
Prayer: Gracious God, such faith and trust from Jeremiah should inspire the same in me. But my impatience often interferes. Help me please. AMEN

I don’t necessarily consider myself an overly patient person. I am the one who looks for the shortest grocery line, checks online for wait times at restaurants, taps on the steering wheel behind an inattentive driver, the list goes on… Am I this way with God‘s timing? Sometimes, maybe. I need to reflect back to some of the stories in the Old Testament. There are great examples of the fruitfulness of patience. Look at the patience of Moses as he guided his people to the promise land, Noah‘s patience in waiting for the rain to cease and the arrival of dry land, and of course, Job and his patience waiting for his misfortune to end. I know very few people who do not have a chapter of fruitless wandering in their life story. Yet time after time, God’s faithfulness brings wanderers back to a place of peace. Thomas Chisholm wrote his famous hymn, “Great is Thy Faithfulness” in 1923 about that very thing in his own life. His poem was set to music by William Runyon and it remains one of the standards of Christian worship. This passage from Lamentations as well as Chisholm’s timeless hymn are reminders of the incalculable gift we have of the Lord’s providence. Hard times are out there somewhere, but unlike those ads for financial products, where God is concerned, past performance IS indicative of future results.
