A Daily Devotion for Friday, March 8

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

In this verse from Psalm 73, the word which cements it's message for me is "forever". We have very little control over what happens with our physical health. We do our best, and still things happen to us. But we always have God-- yesterday, today, tomorrow and forever. Our relationship with God here in this mortal life is everything to us as believers. But eternity will be something brand new, and we are promised to be in the presence of God! Indeed, "God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."

Lord, I am thankful. I do so little to deserve your love and grace. But I am thankful- help me to grow in my faith, ever stronger and ever more willing to do your work. You are the light on my path. Amen

Psalm 73:26

This scripture is a great reminder to me that even with health issues, that my strength and healing comes God and no matter what he’s always in my heart! Wish I could remember the song I learned in Sunday school that goes something like this “in my heart there rings a melody, rings a melody of love”

Psalm 73:26

My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.

When I read the words “the strength of my heart,” I began to think that this is what often keeps the elderly, or disabled working for God in whatever way they can. Those who used to do so much and now need much done for them, still find new ways to serve God. With much prayer, many phone calls, and so many cards written they are still serving Him based on the strength of their heart.

Prayer: Gracious God, may my heart remain strong as I age so I may always be serving you. Amen

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

The reality is our flesh and hearts will fail. When that happens that doesn’t mean that God isn’t in control or that his promises aren’t true. Jesus faced incredible difficulties on this earth. Our hope is in God who will lead us through our temporary situations. We focus on what’s seen, because it’s right in front of us. Being followers of Jesus we should look past what’s right in front of us toward what is unseen. Though we might be wasting away on the outside, inside we are being made new by Jesus.

Lord, thank…

Psalm 73:26

Health issues can be extremely intimidating. I must listen to and follow the Holy Spirit as to how to maximize the effectiveness and power I have in this season of life to promote God’s Kingdom. There may come a time when my maximum effort is “nothing more” than prayer. The joy in this is in knowing that even then, God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever and my prayer is enough.

Prayer - As given to us by the songwriter; I need You. Lord, I need You. Every hour I need You. My one defense, my righteousness, O Lord, how I need You. Amen
