1 Timothy 5:1-2, 8
Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.…. Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
This concept of family is either very complicated or very simple. Probably it can be both. God set us in families on this earth. From the very first, we were in pairs and small groups. Our love for those in our own family is deep and intense. We want the best for them, and we hurt when they hurt. In his letter to Timothy, Paul instructs us to treat others as if they were members of our own family, with love and respect. Family love is something nearly every person has experienced, and when it is missing, it is damaging. I am thinking this morning about taking these verses with me during my day, and remembering them in every interaction. Would this change how I treat others?
Holy One, thank you for these words from Paul. I will try to remember them, and follow them. You are the greatest teacher. Amen

1 Timothy 5: 1-2+8
Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity.
But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
I wanted to incorporate the older generation, the younger generator and immediate family members to show how important it is to work and grow together as the family of God. (No.1)There’s nothing like family. The people we’re related to by blood and marriage are expected to be our greatest sources of love and support. Many times
1 Timothy 5:1-2, 8
My thoughts on this reading went where Roz went. The neglect of the wisdom and experience of seniors is something I hear about from time to time. (No doubt because of the senior circles in which I travel😉.) That said, among the many errors of the organized church is aping the culture’s slavish adoration of all things new and “staying relevant to attract young people.” How has that worked out for us? I learned at a meeting this week that 56% of all New England Conference churches have no children - none. Perhaps if we intentionally approached our seniors as mothers and fathers, they would have a thought or two on what works and what doesn’t.…

God gave me good health and the understanding to work and provide for myself and those in my household. As a family unit we do the best we can to help those in need, as God has told us to do. God provides everything we need to survive and in answer to our belief in God we should…

Paul is giving us a very clear example of Jesus’ command to love one another. Most of us can relate to this level of love of immediate family and what it would be like to apply it to everyone else.
Dear Lord, I know the importance of Jesus’ command, but I need the reminder from your word…
1 Timothy 5:1-2, 8 Never speak harshly to an older man, but appeal to him respectfully as you would your own father. Talk to younger men as you would your own brothers. Treat older women as you would your mother and treat younger women with all purity as you would your own sisters. But those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers. We have our own family. We have our church family and probably other groups considered family. What struck me most about this verse was consideration and respect for older persons. I’m not sure our culture respects the elderly as much as they should. There…
